A v3.5 update request re: uplifting worlds

Postby ItchyFlea » Sun Mar 15, 2009 5:57 am

Every game i've played now my ships have uplifted a world or two.
I personally hate having uplifted worlds and usually start a war with someone to simply get rid of it. (well, get them to get rid of it)
What i'm starting this topic for is to ask Andrew if he'd mind coding in an option to have uplifted worlds removed from the game (like no jump techs) when setting up a new game, as for me the AI usually takes a more aggressive stance with me when I have more than 1 world. (And I perfer having only 1 world for the entire game, makes it harder i find)
Andrew, if you do this i will be extremely grateful.

I started a thread on this already, complete with Poll, here:

I do agree with you on this subject, I hate uplifted worlds myself. They're almost always worlds I would not choose to colonize.

I have to say many people agree on this one, considering the random chance to uplift a world means its rarely on those 20 or so planets in a 200 star galaxy worthy or colonization, and I'm probably a little bit more free with my colonies then most people. Uplifting a small Type IV world not only screws up my spread of planets it also inflates the price of your next colony. The only time I was thankful to uplift a world was after I had colonized one to have 3 races declare war on me at once. So, the freshest dirtball, the uplifted one, got pummeled and the world I wanted to keep had enough of a head start that by the time an attack force came for it, it had 3 cities and and enough defenses to repel the attackers.

One good thing about the uplifted worlds is you can get them clear across the galaxy 40 parsecs away. Can be very useful to have a jump gate on the other side of the galaxy. Not to mention the star systems you would otherwise be unable to reach.

On the other hand. By the time you have researched jump gates you could probably just conquer an enemy world.

When I get a small crappy planet I just defend it as best as possible. Though that is not much more fortified than a typical gunboat starship. If it gets destroyed, Oh well. I usually build ships on them just to have different kinds of ships in my fleet too.
Though, I don't usually build space docks or fortify the cities since that is a waste of money. They have too slow production times to send ships there to refit, and not enough slots to defend effectively.
