Windows 10 - How to get the game working

Postby ItchyFlea » Fri Sep 28, 2018 11:46 pm

It's been quite a long time since I last played the game, but I got bored of other games I've got and decided to play this classic. But apparently this game and Windows 10 don't like each other. It took me a while, but I found a way to get the game running on Windows 10 without attempting to use the useless compatibility troubleshooter.

So, to get the game working on Windows 10:
1) Download and install the game as normal.
2) Replace the .exe with the updated one that fixes the music bug. (Not needed, but why wouldn't you?)
3) Download the latest version of the audiore.dll file (1.9.4) and replace the existing one with the new one. (It's in the same spot as the .exe)

Here's some download links:
Updated .exe for the game: ... P0S7LHgXQP
Updated audiore.dll file: ALT Link: ... kB791_A5fW (The file is in the bin folder in the archive.)

I'm pretty sure those 3 steps are all that's needed to get the game running. No need to mess about with the compatibility wizard. I've played the game for a few minutes, and everything seems fine. Saving and loading works. I'm off to play the game right through now, both for testing and for fun. :)

It works!

I got it to work before in compatibility mode for Windows XP, but windows didn't like the resolution change to 600X800. You would have to alt+tab out repeatedly until the game came up. Same procedure to exit. Now it starts up with no issue at all.
